Xbox Hard Drive 360

The term Xbox® hard drive 360 is one that is frequently entered into search engines the world over, so let’s clarify the topics in which that can be in relation to. The first probably covers the majority of searches for that term which is to locate suppliers offering the very best prices on the external hard drive for the new Xbox® 360. In saying it is an external hard drive is actually a bit confusing because the drive fits into a bespoke designed ‘bay’ within your new Xbox® 360, so it should probably be called an additional hard drive, but the technology is pretty much exactly the same as that which is used in the external hard drives you connect to your PC using USB, Firewire or even External SATA connections.

Your Xbox® hard drive in the 360 is a 20GB and as you have probably realised by now it doesn’t take long to fill that up, Microsoft is suggesting that if you are going to join LIVE the you will definitely want to upgrade your drive so you can download loads more stuff, but you may have found that even without LIVE you have filled 20GB. So currently there is an Xbox® hard drive for the 360 in 60GB size as part of the Xbox® Live Starter Pack, which also includes a 3 month subscription to Xbox® LIVE, an Ethernet cable for connecting to your broadband router and a wired headset so you can fully enjoy the experience of multiplayer gaming by shouting at your mates during game play and so you can download Marketplace extras, movies, music and TV. There is also the 120GB version which is sold individually and I am sure in the weeks and months to come some bright spark will find a way to connect up a normal USB or Firewire External hard drive or even a SATA or IDE drive because most computer hobbyist or enthusiasts like the writer have got several of those lying around just dying to be made us of! Although be warned news just out today suggests that the next update of the dashboard software on the 360 claims that it will disable non genuine hard drives in an attempt to thwart piracy but we shall have to see how that turns out!

The second topic which is covered by the search term Xbox® hard drive 360 might relate to replacing or upgrading the hard drive on your Xbox® however as the new Xbox® 360 doesn’t have a fixed internal hard drive like the launch version of the Xbox®, you will probably find it easier to just by the upgrade and use the included software to transfer your stuff off the old drive onto the new one.

The Xbox® 360 also has a 64MB flash card installed to save your game play on. I should think it is also possible to replace this 64MB version with a higher capacity version providing you get the right format and manufacturer. Although be warned news just out today suggests that the next update of the dashboard software on the 360 claims that it will disable non genuine memory cards. Apparently this in an attempt to prevent piracy but, well, hmm….

If you are quick you can secure a 1.5TB hard drive from here for only £88, that has got to be a mistake but I have ordered two so far and have installed the first one and it runs like a dream, really quiet and really does have 1,500 Gigabytes on it!
